Comments and Predictions

With the achieved results in 2018 of USD 3.809 billion, vegetables and fruits have surpassed commodities such as tea, pepper and rice. From a position of modest export, it is a new driving force for agricultural and rural development when other industries have come to signs of slowing down ... fruit and vegetables continue to set a new record in export turnover and re-establish the excess of crude oil exports. If in 2017, pepper export turnover reached US $ 1,117 billion - lower than US $ 2.382 billion of fruit and vegetables, then in 2018 the difference was US $ 3.05 billion (equivalent to 5 times). This shows that fruits and vegetables are becoming Vietnam's key export products.

The prospect of Vietnam vegetable and fruit export in 2018 is generally quite positive. Because of the potential of the world market as well as the change in the value chain of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables, there are still spaces for the development. Even in the domestic market, with an increasingly professional fruit and vegetable system, the origin of labels supplied to big cities is growing very fast, this is a good signal, an important step forward so that the fruit and vegetable industry moves towards professionalization, ensuring supply for large urban markets, and exporting.

To promote exports and improve the competitiveness, in the year 2018 and the following years enterprises in the fruit and vegetable industry need to improve the quality of vegetables and food safety to have competitive prices in the traditional markets, thereby increasing export turnover. In addition, it is necessary to convert investments into processing, which is a solution to stabilize goods, be available all year round nd sell higher value of goods. At the same time, it is in need to actively expand in many new markets.
